Joe, I checked with some mutual friends who are visiting Belgium over Christmas. Apparently Jos fell about 4 metres from a ladder at home and broke his pelvis, hip, several ribs and suffered from a collapsed lung. Apparently he was in intensive care for a while. It'll take him a while to recuperate.

Hi Andrew,

I really liked that interview with Dave Stockton and I've just ordered myself a copy of his Unconscious Putting book - I'm always open to new ideas!

I really like Dave Stockton's ideas, and the 6 steps you summarised include some really important points. However, I'd rather do all that conscious work in the pre-shot routine, rehearse it then just step in and trust my unconscious mind to hit the putt.

It's like driving a car. You start by thinking consciously about where you're going, when you need to get there, what the weather and traffic conditions are going to be, do you need fuel, etc. However, once you start the car, you just drive - without another conscious thought. You learned how to drive years ago; you don't need to consciously think about how to do it.

With my best regards,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Love all your focus on unconscious putting and the pre-shot routine.

Came across Dave Stockton being interviewed by Charlie Rose on his new book "Unconscious Putting". See from around 6:00 minutes on pre-shot routine http://www.charlierose.com/view/interview/12013.

My summary:

1. From 4ft behind ball, visualise the putt and practice stroke with RH to get feel whilst looking at the target.
2. Walk up to ball, place right foot and ground putter in front of ball .
3. Line up body while looking at target line for 6,7,8 secs and place left foot last for alignment.
4. Remembering alignment point on target line and last half of the putt, settle and move putter behind the ball.
5. Look at the hole once and, visualising the target line, return eyes to a point 1” to 2” in front of the ball (don't even notice ball as focus is on alignment point and target line).
6. “My whole world is the back of my LH not breaking down and rolling the ball over that spot (the alignment point)”.

Kind regards,
Andrew

AimPoint and Geoff Mangum

I was talking recently about AimPoint to one of my professional clients. Although he shared a lot of my enthusiasm, he warned me about a very negative article about AimPoint on Geoff Mangum's PuttingZone Blog.

Here's my response:

Yes, I have read the article and you're not raining on my parade. I took it into account, with a pinch of salt, as I often do with Geoff's articles, in deciding whether to go on the AimPoint Seminar. On balance it seemed worth a look.

I'm sure that Geoff Mangum is right, to some degree, about the exact science and the aspects of feel, varying slope, etc. So I will take note of your warning. However, golf in general and putting in particular are not an exact science. So does it matter if AimPoint is scientifically incorrect if it has the potential to make people putt more confidently and possibly more accurately and consistently.

I'm still at the learning stage and taking small steps, so I haven't decided if the whole AimPoint idea works for me. However, the first small steps show great promise. That's why I've been writing about it.

Thank you Howard,

I'm delighted that you liked the article on Finger Breathing. It's a great technique to learn, as once you master the technique, all it will take is a couple of deep breaths out on the course to take yourself into a wonderful state of confident relaxation and preparedness. And you don't have to limit its use just to your golf!

Regards,

Hi Belia,

If you have no consistency with your pitching then that assumes you do hit some of your pitches just right. So the problem is not about learning how to pitch, but about achieving consistency. And that's what we are all about here at The Golf Hypnotist. I suggest you start with our Winning Golf Hypnosis Audio Programme from the Golf Hypnotist Store.
